Holiday Decorating Trends for 2024

For those of you who’ve had your Christmas lights up since the day after Halloween — no judgment! — this information might be a little late. But for all you post-Thanksgiving decorators out there, our design team has put together a list of holiday decorating trends that will give your home a warm and natural glow this winter.

Below, we’ll cover three trends for savvy decorators: candlelight, simple greenery, and vintage accents. Plus, we’ll give you some pro tips for bringing these trends to life in your home.

Candles, Candles, Candles

We know, this one seems kind of obvious. But while candles themselves are nothing new, this season we’re predicting taper candles will take the spotlight atop festive and modern candelabras and candlesticks.

Adorn your tablescape with an eclectic assortment of taper holders. Decorate your fireplace hearth with warm touches of brass and bronze. Embellish your walls with candle sconces tied with bows for a festive touch. There are so many ways to use taper candles to bring an elevated holiday glow to your home.

Pro Tip: Source pure beeswax candles as a sustainable, bright-burning, low-drip option. Here are some that we found on Etsy!

Simple Greenery and Natural Elements

Simplify your holiday landscape this season with paired-down greens and touches of natural elements. We love filling large, sturdy vessels and vases with tall evergreen stems or seasonal branches to bring a touch of the outdoors inside.

For something smaller that will fit comfortably on your table or counter, consider bowls of greenery or seasonal fruit (fresh or faux) to bring a touch of texture and freshness to your kitchen.

You can also showcase the beauty of your surroundings by sourcing natural pine garlands locally or utilizing a faux piece for a longer-lasting, reusable option.

Pro Tip: If you love potpourri, this is a great time to get crafty and display your DIY know-how! Dehydrated orange and lemon slices look and smell beautiful. Add several drops of orange and clove essential oil to your dehydrated fruit, then toss and store the mixture in an airtight container for several days to get a lovely-smelling and festive potpourri.

Vintage Accents: Ribbon, Paper, and Metallics

Nothing says warmth and comfort quite like vintage decor. One item we love is a wired golden-leaf garland, which brings sparkle and a playful touch to your mantlepiece or stairwell banister.

And remember tinsel? When used thoughtfully, this 1950s standby can add cozy, vintage charm to your space. The same goes for paper tabletop trees like these from West Elm. If you enjoy a more layered, softer look, utilize silk or velvet ribbon to adorn any garland, tree, or railing you’d like.

Pro Tip: This is a great time to bring out those old family heirlooms or peruse your local vintage shops for sweet holiday decor!
